The making of the Snowtrooper Commander mold

I'd like to make note that my method of mold making doesn't involve clay. I like to skip that
step so that my original sculpts end up also being the mold that I use to form with. I also
use wood and or metal wherever flat planes or hard edges are necessary.

This is the template I made based on the profile I got from the film stills.

Laminated foam with the front of the shroud sketched on.

Foam cut to shape.

Rough cut of 3D form with centerline and goggle position line

Side view with bottom contour line.

Toothpicks for depth gauge. I had to add more material there for side flair

Cardboard pattern for bottom "footprint" Also extensions for final mold. My original foam
was too small.

Cardboard trimmed.

Additional extensions.

Carpenter cloth to spread bondo onto.

Using template to check the profile.

Mixing the Bondo.

A good start.

Almost covered

From the side.

More material added and high spots ground down.

Filling the lows.

Better, closer, warmer...

Testing the goggle position.

Retooling the goggle mold for use with the new mold.

Cutting out the goggle recess.

Fitted, finished and ready to go.

Close up.

The first form. The second revision came from this pull. The mold was then cut down.

The second form and final shape.

Trimmed out.

Mounted. Note that the mold will need some adjusting so that the parts line up properly.

 - A work in progress.
